Richard Warren Pousette-Dart (June 8, 1916 – October 25, 1992) was an American abstract artist known as a founding member of the New York School and a first-generation abstract expressionist painter.

Pousette-Dart developed a unique lexicon of biomorphic and totemic forms, which he incorporated into symbolically rich compositions using various painterly techniques. He was also acclaimed for his work in sculpture, photography, drawing, and printmaking, all characterized by his expressive use of gesture, color, and form. With an independent aesthetic and personal vision, Pousette-Dart pursued universal significance through his abstract art.
