Red Grooms is a painter, printmaker, and sculptor associated with the Pop Art movement, and best known for his site-specific installations of cities. Born in Nashville, TN, he studied at the Art Institute of Chicago before moving to New York to attend the New School for Social Research. Starting in the late 1960s, Grooms started creating what he termed sculpto-pictoramas, which were intricate three-dimensional constructions depicting urban settings.

In addition to his three-dimensional constructions and paper “portraits”, Grooms has also produced films and made prints and bronze sculptures. His major subjects have included movie stars, city life, and famous artists.
